Ensuring the Viability and Success of the Classroom
-
Even the most innocent of interruptions can have significant impacts on student learning throughout the day. In order to minimize the impact of interruptions to the critical flow and function of the classroom we ask the following:
- Picking your child up early:
- If you are picking up students or dropping items off for students please stop at the office. We will help coordinate this so the classroom is least impacted.
- Volunteering or Visiting the classroom:
- If you are visiting or volunteering, please be sure to wear your visitors badge prominently. This helps staff members know that you have checked in at the office.
- Please be sure to contact the teacher ahead of time if you would like to visit, assist or observe in the classroom.
- All volunteers for ASD must be approved each school year. If you'd like to volunteer or visit the classroom during school hours, please fill out this . The front office will email you when you are approved to volunteer.
- While in classrooms, please keep cell phones silenced and conversations in the hallway to a minimum.
- Remember that teachers place a premium on the limited time they have to plan quality lessons and activities. We encourage parents to conference with teachers as needed and whenever they have concerns. Please do keep in mind that the best result is achieved for everyone when the conference is pre-arranged.

School Telephones
-
School phones are limited to school business and emergencies. Children will be permitted to use the phone only in an emergency. Plans for after school activities or play dates should be made at home before the school day.
Student & Teacher Messages
Students and teachers cannot come to the phone when classes are in session, except in an emergency. Front office staff will relay messages to teachers via email. Teachers check their email several times during the day and will get back with you ASAP.
Please let your child know before going to school how he/she will be getting home that day. If your plan changes, call the front office before 3 p.m. An email will be sent to your child’s teacher who will scan his/her email for student messages before dismissing their class.
Birthdays and Classroom Parties
-
Our school recognizes student birthdays each morning during our schoolwide morning announcements. Birthday children are called to the office to receive a birthday pencil and new book provided by the PTA. We do not celebrate student birthdays at school (in classrooms, during recess, or during lunch time) with any type of food or goodie bags provided by the teacher or parent. There are many reasons for this policy to include - a variety of food allergies, the school district policy of three classroom parties a year, and time taken away from instruction.
We encourage and invite parents/guardians to come and eat lunch in the classroom with your birthday child, but please remember that you can only give birthday treats to your child.
The Î÷Ê©Ö±²¥APP School District allows each classroom to have 3 parties per year, not to exceed 60 minutes per party.
