Peer Mediation
-
The Girdwood School Peer Mediation program is available to all students in grades K-8. Peer mediation promotes self-control and self-confidence. The goal of the program is to reduce conflict and provide students with problem-solving skills. Peer mediation sessions are facilitated by trained peer mediators, sixth through eighth grade students, who have been selected by their teachers through an application process. They are neutral, not taking sides, and they use the mediation process to help people listen to one another, understand each other and solve problems together. Conflicts brought forth by students are completely confidential. Our peer mediators have been trained on confidentiality and have signed contracts saying that the information that they mediate cannot be shared with others. Solutions to conflicts are not forced on the students and are rather developed and agreed upon by the students in the dispute. If you have any questions pertaining to the program, please contact Mrs. Anderson at anderson_kari@asdk12.org
