The Science department strives to develop in all students the science process skills and content knowledge necessary for the successful navigation of the modern world. Authentic science experiences are provided to students through place-based curriculum that is aligned with adopted standards. Instructional approaches focused on inquiry and engineering design build student capacity to solve real-world problems that impact their lives and our community.
In the Î÷Ê©Ö±²¥APP School District, science students will:
- generate questions and predictions to explore, gather and synthesize information from different reliable sources
- formulate conceptual or physical models of phenomena and use these models to predict outcomes
- apply critical thinking skills with persistence to define and investigate relevant, real world problems
- identify, collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data to construct and communicate evidence-based claims and explanations, and respectfully critique each other’s reasoning
- enjoy science and have awareness of Alaskan issues that can be investigated and/or mitigated with scientific approaches, and the careers related to these applications
Safety is our number one priority. Guidelines for the proper use of science equipment, and descriptions of the risks involved, are outlined in the Safety Contracts posted here. Teachers instruct upon and enforce the rules outlined in these contracts to ensure the safety of all students in science class.
