Preventing the release of directory information
School officials may release directory information about a student without first obtaining parental consent, unless parents decline by completing a Realease of Student Directory Information Form found on our Enrollment Forms page here.
In a few instances, the district is required by law to release certain contact information regarding high school students, unless parents decline:
- The district is required to provide to the University of Alaska the names and addresses of those students eligible for UA scholarship programs.
- The district is also required to provide student eligibility information to the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy, a program for students who have dropped out of school.
- Upon receiving a request from military recruiters and/or institutions of higher learning, the district must provide the student name, address, school, student telephone number, and student email address of each high school student.
Recruiter procedures
Recruiters for military, employment and post-secondary education organizations shall be given equal access to ASD high schools. The Recruiter Procedures for High Schools provides guidance on that access.
