Semester 1: EMT (Part 1) Introduces Emergency Trauma Technician/CPR-BLS/ Anatomy and Physiology/ Communications and Medical Terminology. There is no age requirement for EMT 1. Class is open for 11th and 12th grade students. Students will earn ETT/CPR certification, BUT to certify as an EMT with the state, students must complete EMT 2 and be 18 before or within five months of the exam in May.
• If a student chooses not to take the EMT exam in May, they can simply take part 1 as a pathway to any of the health courses such as CNA, PCA, Health Sciences, etc.
• Students may enter directly into part 2 with instructor approval. They must meet eligibility for the EMT exam, complete prerequisites (approved Health Science coursework and CPR for the Health Care Provider) and submit a letter of intent.
Semester 2: EMT (Part 2) Introduces the advanced portion of EMT education. More in-depth anatomy and physiology, all the hands-on EMS skills and certification. Part 2 is much more academically challenging and requires the student to be 18 at the time or within five months of the exam. Students enroll in EMT 2 per instructor recommendation. Students do not have to take EMT 1 and EMT 2 consecutively.
Grade level 11-12. Must be age 18 within five months of state testing for EMT.
